Four guys from Chicago bring us rough singing and poetic guitar-noise
A lot of strange comparisons have been made concerning these suit-
wearing gentlemen from windy-city. Some talked about Springsteen and
Dostojewski, the others whispered Tindersticks, Waits, Cave; whereas a
third party placed that cool swamp-country-guitar rock somewhere
between the Replacements and Captain Beefheart. I would even dare to
state Never Go Home sounds like an amazing jam-session between the
gorgeous Flaming Stars (a band by far not as famous as they should be),
Creedence Clearwater Revival (never forgotten) with Iggy Pop on vocals.
"Hand Grenade Head", "El Gato Feo", "The Return Of Ol' Carlo", "Devon
Avenue" and all the other strokes of genius appear like songs coming
directly from the bottom of a glass of whiskey, glowing in the bizarre beauty
of neon lights reflected in an oil puddle while the rain is blowing soft as
silken haze through the streets... Or to say it a bit more prosaic, Brian
Hunt, Brian Krumm, Brian Leach and Christian Moder know damn well how
to write really catchy songs; sometimes loud, often sad, reduced to the
most necessary, going straight to the ear and sung by Krumm with a rough
and tender voice, sweet shivers guaranteed. Bought me a suit after writing
this down. Listened to the Crusades for nights. Been happy.
