Anyone who’s listened to their second album, Damaged Goods, knows that this quartet of mostly Brians doesn’t screw around when it comes to honest, visceral song writing, and that there are at least two very impressive guitar players in the group, and that Brian Krumm’s compositions maximize the talents of Brian Leach (keys, guitar, vox), Brian Hunt (bass) and Christian Moder (stool-less drums). However, anyone who was at the Double Door last Friday (January 12, 2001) now knows that the Great Crusades, still readjusting to Chicago after an escapade through Germany in the fall, are masters of live dynamics. There is something tongue in cheek about their uniform two-piece suits, especially by the time Krumm can no longer see through his sweaty bangs and is standing on Moder’s bass drum contemplating whether or not to destroy his guitar on stage. |
